CHARACTER CONCEPT
Here is a concept I've been working on. Pretty much rough sketch for fun! Get back into drawing. :)
Was a fun exercise! Might inspire other creations.

Concept Polishing
Here is a newest work on the art direction for Hammer. There has been update on the characters and the world. We are still in pre-pre-production but it's a nice start. (Missing a lot of elements to bring this world to life!)
There is still a long way to go... but got to start somewhere! :)

Art Direction Research
Here is a Work-In-Progress of a first step to something. Going with the look of the game. This is purely research and things will surely evolve as we work on the game. More to come on this screen!

Slow Going
Work on Hammer thus far hasn't really gone into full swing. Myself and Phil are both busy with other projects as of late and this has slowed work on Hammer. That's not to say that no work is being done... Phil has done some really cool concept artwork (including the guy you see now on the blog background) and I've been plugging away at the game engine (which is now in a 'kinda playable' state).
We have also spent a good deal of time brainstorming and have some pretty cool ideas for what Hammer will eventually become. Overall I've spent more time brainstorming ideas for Hammer than any of my previous games and I believe this extra preparation will help not only in decreasing development time once work really begins but also to make the game a more fun, more enjoyable experience. Several of the ideas we've already had wouldn't have come about if we just jumped full-steam into development and others would have been simply too hard/time-consuming to implement if we thought of them later in the development cycle.
Work on Hammer should pickup come November and then really get going in January or February of 2010. Stay tuned.

Welcome to the Happy Hermit
The Happy Hermit is a new video game development company working to create fun, polished and beautiful video game experiences. We are currently two strong, Phil (artist-extraordinare) and myself (programmer-slightly-above-average). We are currently working on releasing a game for Xbox Live Indie Games which we're tentatively calling "Hammer" and will be actively blogging about said game's progress over the coming months.
Previously Phil and myself collaborated on the XBLIG Nasty, which is available now for your Xbox 360.
Currently our website for TheHappyHermit.com is pretty spars, but it will be expanded upon as we get further along in development of our latest opus.
Check out our company logo below, which Phil created. I think it looks pretty cool and fits the sort of style and culture of our company.
Thoughts or suggestions? Leave us a comment, we'd love to hear from our fans!
